Meteorite iron impasto texture detail — Luna Iron

The Iron Source

Jewelry-Grade Meteorite Offcuts

Iron meteorites are among the rarest materials on Earth. When certified meteorite craftsmen cut and polish raw meteorite material into wearable jewelry, they generate a byproduct: iron-nickel alloy dust, powder, and small granules — the offcuts of precision work.

These offcuts are the raw material for every Luna Iron canvas. We collect what the jewelry process discards.

The iron is mixed directly into the acrylic impasto medium before application, creating a paint that carries actual meteorite material in every brushstroke and palette knife pass. The result is a surface that carries the actual atomic structure of material formed 4.5 billion years ago — before Earth existed.

This is not a marketing claim. It is a material fact, documented and certified with each work.

The Process

How the Iron Enters the Paint

01 · SOURCE
Collection
Iron-nickel alloy offcuts are collected from certified meteorite jewelry craftsmen. The material is catalogued by source meteorite and composition.
02 · PREPARE
Preparation
The iron powder and granules are graded by particle size. Finer powder is used for impasto medium; larger granules create the visible texture.
03 · MIX
Integration
The iron is hand-mixed directly into acrylic impasto medium in controlled ratios. The resulting compound is heavier and denser than standard paint.
04 · APPLY
Application
Heavy palette knife and brush techniques build the surface layer by layer. The iron-laden medium creates ridges and valleys that catch light differently from standard impasto.
