The Iron Source
The iron in Luna Iron canvases traces back to a specific object: the Aletai meteorite, found in Xinjiang, China in 1898. It is officially classified as Iron, IIIE-an by the Meteoritical Society, with a total recovered mass of 74 tons — one of the largest iron meteorites ever documented.
These offcuts are the raw material for every Luna Iron canvas. We collect what they discard.
The iron powder and granules are mixed directly into acrylic impasto medium, creating a texture that carries the actual atomic structure of material formed before Earth existed. This is not a metaphor. It is a material fact, documented and certified with each work.
